Anna Camp Addresses Criticism Over 18-Year Age Gap with Girlfriend

Pitch Perfect star Anna Camp has spoken out directly against commentary surrounding the 18-year age difference between herself and her new girlfriend, Jade Whipkey. Camp, 42, publicly addressed the speculation in an Instagram comment on Friday, June 20, firmly defending her relationship with Whipkey, who is reportedly 24.

Defending Their Connection

Responding to those questioning the age gap, Camp emphasized the depth and maturity of her bond with Whipkey. “I’ve dated men exactly my age and Jade is FAR more mature than any of them,” she stated in her comment. She highlighted their compatibility, adding, “We have more in common than anyone else I’ve ever dated and can literally talk about anything and everything.”

Camp acknowledged that “Everyone is entitled to their opinion” but concluded her remarks by wishing everyone well, particularly mentioning the ongoing Pride month celebration.

A Public Relationship Journey

Anna Camp and Jade Whipkey first went public with their romance earlier this year. The couple made their red carpet debut together just days before Camp’s Instagram comment, attending the premiere of Camp’s new movie, Bride Hard, on Wednesday, June 18. Camp had initially confirmed their relationship during a social media interview back in February.

Finding Happiness After Past Marriages

Reflecting on her personal journey and discovering happiness with Whipkey following two previous marriages to men, Camp has been open about her dating experiences and navigating societal expectations. In a TikTok video from February 2024 that gained wider attention in May, Camp shared her current perspective on dating, stating, “Well, I don’t expect anything anymore because I like women and it’s great.” In the same video, she recounted a negative past dating experience with a man who was late and made critical comments about her appearance.

Camp also discussed what she views as a significant societal pressure, particularly prevalent in the Southern U.S. where she grew up – the expectation that happiness is achieved by being married to a man with children by age 30. She explicitly called this idea a “conspiracy,” asserting, “That’s not true.”

Before her relationship with Whipkey, Camp was married to actor Michael Mosley from 2010 to 2013 and her Pitch Perfect costar Skylar Astin from 2016 to 2019. She maintains amicable relationships with her ex-husbands, mentioning in a recent podcast that she occasionally chats with Mosley, whom she met at age 21 in New York City. She described their initial meeting as a “one-night stand that lasted seven years” and noted that their relationship evolved and ultimately struggled after they both moved to Los Angeles and grew into different people, calling the divorce a significant heartbreak.

Since confirming their relationship, Camp and Whipkey have been seen displaying public affection in Los Angeles, openly enjoying their time together despite the recent public commentary.
