Brad Pitt Open to Tom Cruise Reunion – With One High-Flying Catch
Could two of Hollywood’s biggest heavyweights, Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise, share the screen again? According to Pitt, the answer is a definite yes – provided the project keeps his feet firmly on the ground.
The Oscar-winning actor recently expressed his willingness to collaborate with his Interview with the Vampire co-star, Tom Cruise, nearly three decades after their 1994 film. Reminiscing about their time working together, Pitt shared with E! News a sweet anecdote about racing go-karts with Cruise after filming, a bond that clearly stuck. He also noted Cruise’s recent praise for Pitt’s upcoming F1 film, calling it “sweet.”
The “No Airplanes” Rule
However, Pitt’s openness comes with a clear stipulation. Referencing Cruise’s now-legendary penchant for performing death-defying aerial stunts in blockbusters like the Mission: Impossible franchise, Pitt drew a line in the sky.
“Well, I’m not gonna hang my ass off airplanes and sh– like that,” Pitt stated candidly, adding that a reunion would need to happen “when he does something again that’s on the ground.”
Pitt’s condition is entirely understandable given Cruise’s reputation. While both actors are known for their dedication to their craft, their approaches to physical stunts diverge significantly.
Differing Approaches to Stunts
This difference has been noted by industry professionals who have worked with both stars. Joseph Kosinski, who directed Cruise in the high-octane Top Gun: Maverick and is now directing Pitt in the F1 film, highlighted their distinct styles in a chat with GQ.
Kosinski described Cruise as someone who “always pushes it to the limit,” possessing immense skill but often “scaring us a little bit more.”
Graham Kelly, the action-vehicle supervisor on Pitt’s F1 film who has also tackled multiple Mission: Impossible productions with Cruise, echoed this sentiment. Kelly called working on Cruise’s stunts “the most stressful experience,” explaining that Cruise pushes limits “really to the limit,” which he finds terrifying. In stark contrast, Kelly observed that Brad Pitt “listeners and he knows his abilities,” and is quick to say if a stunt is beyond his comfort zone.
These expert perspectives underscore why Pitt might be hesitant to join Cruise on another film that requires scaling skyscrapers or hanging from airborne aircraft.
Promoting the High-Speed World of F1
Pitt’s comments came while promoting his own adrenaline-fueled project, the highly anticipated Apple Originals Film centering on the world of Formula 1 racing. Made in partnership with F1 itself, the film features Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a veteran racer attempting a comeback alongside a young teammate (Damson Idris).
Describing the film’s scale and intensity, Pitt told E! News it’s “big, it’s huge. The driving is something off the charts.” Yet, he added, it’s also “really fun. And it’s funny and it’s kind of moving, I dare say.”
Pitt also spoke with awe about the experience of driving a real F1 vehicle, calling the sensation of downforce “something otherworldly” and unlike anything he’s ever felt, whether on a rollercoaster or in an aerobatic plane.
Beyond the track, Pitt is also set to reprise his Oscar-winning role as stuntman Cliff Booth in Netflix’s forthcoming The Adventures of Cliff Booth.
So, while a Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise reunion is on the table, don’t expect to see Pitt clinging to the side of a building or dangling from a helicopter anytime soon. For now, any future collaboration needs to stay grounded.
