samsung will launch Galaxy S26 Ultra next year, and it might not surprise with this Periscope camera. A new report talks about the potential camera specs of the device, which are a total disappointment for fans.

According to GalaxyClub, Samsung won’t upgrade the Galaxy S26 Ultra phone’s Periscope camera. The device may retain the 50-megapixel lens that first debuted in the Galaxy S24 Ultra and repeated in the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

The report also reveals that the sensor will keep 5x Optical Zoom support. That said, it’s a complete upgrade sidelines, which might hurt those expecting a better zoom camera on Samsung’s next-generation Galaxy S flagship.

Flagships launched before the Galaxy S24 Ultra used a 10x optical zoom camera. The sensor was low in resolution (10 megapixels), but optical zoom functionality delivers better results than the software processing of a 5x sensor.

Big hope left

The camera disappointment streak doesn’t stop at this Periscope leak. The Galaxy S26 Ultra may also reuse the 200-megapixel main camera. The new ultrawide that was first used in the S25 Ultra will be untouched for at least two more years.

Well, there’s no bad news emerged (so far) about the Telephoto camera. The Galaxy S26 Ultra will be equipped with two dedicated zoom cameras. Although the periscope is to be repeated, the Telephoto sensor may see some love.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra comes with a 3x Telephoto camera of 10-megapixel resolution. Samsung fans are demanding a new zoom camera following the recent launches by Xiaomi and Vivo, with some using a 200MP telephoto camera.

Retaining a 5x periscope is considerable if Samsung brings a new Telephoto solution. The megapixel state should be increased for better quality pictures, and the optical zoom should also have some Samsung love this time.

Note that the details are based on reports, and nothing is confirmed yet.

Galaxy watch 8 may help Samsung where it currently needs the most

Samsung is about to release its new Galaxy Watch 8 on July 9, and it is coming at an important time. The company has been struggling in the smartwatch market and is expecting the Galaxy Watch 8 series to boost sales.

Earlier this year, Samsung dropped from third to fourth place in global smartwatch sales, according to Counterpoint’s latest Q1 2025 report. That’s a big deal, especially since sales in main markets, including North America and Europe, have dropped the most.

While Apple is still number one in smartwatch sales, other companies like Huawei and Xiaomi are catching up fast. Huawei is now in second place, and Xiaomi is not far behind. If Samsung doesn’t do something big soon, it could fall even further behind.

That’s where the Galaxy Watch 8 series comes in. Several leaks suggest the new watch will feature a fresh “squircle” design, giving it a new look. Even this time, it is reportedly bringing back the Classic model, which was ditched in last year’s Galaxy Watch 7 series.

But design alone may not be enough. Samsung needs these watches to really impress buyers and compete with the cheaper, value-packed models from Chinese brands.

Notably, more people are buying smartwatches in the $100 to $200 price range, while the super cheap ones under $100 are slowing down. This could be a good chance for Samsung to offer something both premium and affordable.

It’s also worth noting that these latest sales numbers only reflect the first quarter of 2025, which means before any new models were launched. So Samsung still has time to bounce back in the smartwatch market.

With the Galaxy Watch 8, Samsung has high expectations of its success. If the watch does well, it could help the company come back to improve its place in the market.

At its upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event, the company is expected to reveal three new models – Galaxy Watch 8, Galaxy Watch 8 Classic, and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. So, the future of Samsung in the global smartwatch market depends on these smartwatches.

Galaxy S25 Ultra is the only Snapdragon 8 Elite phone that matters in the US

Non-Samsung Snapdragon 8 Elite phones are available for purchase in the US, but the Galaxy S25 series is the one that matters. The Samsung flagships have rivals from OnePlus and Asus, but their presence is just a listing.

Back in February, Samsung launched the Galaxy S25 series worldwide. This lineup has three models – Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, and S25 Ultra. In May 2025, the company introduced the Galaxy S25 Edge with the slimmest design.

Samsung owns Snapdragon – literally

Estimations reveal that Samsung sold 16.61 million units of the Galaxy S25 series as of May 2025. It’s an overall sales mark for all the countries where these phones are available for purchase, including the United States.

Among the 16.61 million, the Galaxy S25 sold 4.86 million, S25 Plus sold 3.17 million, and S25 Ultra sold 8.39 million. The fourth variant, the S25 Edge, is said to have flagged 190,000 units shipped initially as of May 2025.

These four models are packed with the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy. It’s designed by Qualcomm and produced by TSMC using its 3nm process. It’s the first chip that uses Qualcomm’s custom Oryon CPU with high performance.

Released in January 2025, the OnePlus 13 is available in the US. It packs a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, with pricing starting at $899.99 in the country. Another 8 Elite phone is ASUS ROG Phone 9, which is a gaming phone announced in November last year.

It’s worth noting that all Android flagships that use Snapdragon 8 Elite chips haven’t reached the sales mark flagged by Samsung’s S25 lineup. Rivals are selling worldwide, but the practical sales volume is negligible compared to Samsung’s.

Product launches in the initial move, but sales tell the real story. Global users have plenty of options, unlike the US, but the sales numbers show that Samsung owns the Snapdragon, with the highest models shipped against all rivals together.

US-Vietnam tariff deal saves Samsung phone sales from major hit

A new trade agreement between the US and Vietnam brought relief to Samsung Electronics’ Mobile eXperience (MX) Business Unit.

Samsung produces about 60% of its 220 million annual phones in Vietnam. Most of these devices are exported to the US, where Samsung holds a 20% market share. Earlier, President Donald Trump imposed 46% reciprocal tariffs on Vietnam.

The trade deal between the US and Vietnam has slashed the proposed 46% tariffs to 20%, bringing direct yet interim relief for Samsung phone sales. High tariffs could have weakened the company’s position against rivals like Apple.

“It is my Great Honor to announce that I have just made a Trade Deal with the Socialist Republic of Vietnam,” Donald Trump said on Truth Social after speaking with Vietnam’s top leader, To Lam.

Industry experts view the tariff reduction as a win. “The drop to 20% avoids the worst-case scenario,” an industry official noted. Still, potential item-specific tariffs on smartphones or semiconductors could pose future risks.

The agreement provides short-term relief, but Samsung must stay vigilant. With potential US tariff exemptions favoring Apple and transshipment tariffs looming, strategic adjustments will shape Samsung Mobile’s future in the US market.

The MX Business Unit is a cornerstone of Samsung’s profitability. Well, the relief isn’t one-sided: the US announced a 40% tariff on transshipment goods, targeting products exported to the country via Vietnam from third countries.

Samsung preemptively shipped its Galaxy S25 series to the US before the tariff announcement, mitigating initial impacts. For the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, the company may adjust production to countries that face lower tariffs.

Samsung leans heavily on cheaper Chinese parts for flagship phones

Samsung is seemingly keeping the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 prices unchanged. For this, the company has made some strategic changes. A new report indicates that Samsung is betting on cheaper Chinese parts for its flagship foldable phones.

TheBell reports that Samsung is stepping up its partnership with a Chinese parts maker for its flagship foldable phones, particularly hinges. The company aims to boost price competitiveness, but at a cost of sidelining legacy Korean parts.

Chinese OEM Huili has secured 60-70% of the hinge supply for Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 7. For six generations, KH Vatec dominated Samsung’s hinge supply. Huili’s entry with the Galaxy Z Flip 5 began changing this dynamic.

Hinges are critical for foldable phones, powering the folding and unfolding operations. Samsung’s decision seems to have been influenced by rising competition with Apple and Chinese brands like Huawei in the smartphone market.

Samsung flagships rely on Chinese parts

In the previous years, China-based component suppliers mainly handled part supplies for mid-to-low-end Galaxy devices. Now, Samsung’s premium phones lean heavily on Chinese components, which are comparatively cheaper.

With government backing, Chinese manufacturers are advancing technologically. Even at lower costs, their components meet the high standards required for flagship devices, making them appealing to Samsung and others.

Samsung’s mainstream Galaxy S flagship phones are also seeing changes. China’s Sunny Optical now supplies main camera modules, showing how Chinese firms are penetrating Samsung’s premium device supply chain.

Well, Samsung’s shift to Chinese partners like Huili highlights a balancing act. Lower costs improve market competitiveness, but they may weaken South Korea’s domestic smartphone component industry over time.
