Kim Kardashian Could Take on Villain Role in New Bratz Live-Action Movie

Reality TV star, entrepreneur, and burgeoning actress Kim Kardashian is reportedly eyeing a significant role in the upcoming live-action film based on the popular Bratz doll franchise. Sources indicate Kardashian is being considered for the pivotal role of the movie’s villain, alongside taking on a producer credit for the project, which is in development at Amazon MGM Studios.

The acquisition of the Bratz movie package by Amazon MGM Studios followed a competitive bidding process, highlighting Hollywood’s increased interest in adapting iconic toy lines for the big screen, particularly after the massive success of Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” film.

Behind the Scenes: Production Details Emerge

Should Kim Kardashian officially join the cast as the antagonist, it would mark a notable step in her expanding acting career. She is also attached to produce the film, working alongside Erik Feig and Julia Hammer for Picturestart, and Jason Larian and Jasmin Larian for MGA Entertainment, the company behind the Bratz brand. MGA’s CEO and Founder, Isaac Larian, is set to serve as an executive producer.

The screenplay for the new Bratz film is being penned by Charlie Polinger and Lucy McKendrick. While specific plot details remain confidential, the project is expected to be a high-profile endeavor given the talent involved and the global popularity of the Bratz franchise.

The World of Bratz: A Legacy of ‘Bratitude’

The Bratz fashion dolls first burst onto the scene in 2001, quickly becoming known for their distinctive look, edgy fashion, and “attitudinal” personalities. The original lineup featured a diverse group of friends: Yasmin (Latina), Cloe (White), Jade (East Asian), Sasha (African American), and Meygan (Scottish Redhead), establishing the brand’s commitment to inclusion and self-expression.

Over two decades later, the brand remains immensely popular, having sold over 200 million dolls worldwide. Notably, Bratz reportedly boasts the highest social media engagement across all platforms compared to any other toy brand globally, driven by an unyielding passion for fashion and creativity. The franchise has previously expanded into various media, including 14 animated films, an animated TV series, and a prior live-action movie released in 2007 titled “Bratz: The Movie.” It is currently unknown if any actors from the 2007 film will return for the new production.

Not the First Kardashian-Bratz Connection

Interestingly, this potential collaboration wouldn’t be the first time a member of the Kardashian-Jenner family has teamed up with the Bratz brand. In August 2023, Kim’s younger sister, Kylie Jenner, launched a special collection of Bratz fashion dolls.

The “Bratz x Kylie Fashion Dolls – Day and Night collection” marked the brand’s first-ever celebrity doll collaboration. The collection featured main dolls replicating some of Kylie’s most iconic looks, such as her black Mugler gown from the 2022 CFDA Awards and a patent leather mini-dress “day” look complete with the signature Bratz lips purse. Additionally, six miniature Kylie dolls recreated other famous ensembles, including her 2019 Met Gala attire.

At the time, MGA Entertainment CEO Isaac Larian commented on the collaboration, stating it introduced a “contemporary style icon who grew up on the dolls into the Bratz Pack,” exploring what it means to be a modern Bratz girl while honoring the legacy of the original dolls who inspired a generation to navigate their world with “Bratitude.” The fact that both Kim Kardashian and MGA Entertainment are represented by the same talent agency, WME, may also have played a role in facilitating this potential new film partnership.

Kim Kardashian’s Expanding Film Career

Beyond the reported Bratz project, Kim Kardashian has been actively expanding her presence in the acting and producing world. She recently had a starring role in the 12th season of “American Horror Story: Delicate” and is attached to an upcoming thriller film from screenwriter Natalie Krinsky. Her production slate is also growing, with projects like the upcoming Netflix comedy “The Fifth Wheel” (where she also stars) and the Hulu drama series “All Is Fair” (in which she reportedly plays a character named Allura Grant). She is also involved in the Hulu series “Group Chat” and executive producing a documentary series about Elizabeth Taylor.

While the details of the live-action Bratz film are still emerging, the potential involvement of Kim Kardashian in a villainous role adds an intriguing layer to the anticipated adaptation of the beloved fashion dolls.
