Daryl Dixon Season 3 Premieres Sept 7, Journeys to Spain

Get ready, Dead Heads! The European branch of The Walking Dead universe is setting sail for new horizons this fall. AMC has officially announced the premiere date for the highly anticipated third season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.

Mark your calendars: Season 3 of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will debut on Saturday, September 7.

As previously revealed, the upcoming season shifts its setting dramatically, transporting Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride) to Spain. This marks a significant change from the first two seasons, which were primarily set against the backdrop of France. The move promises a fresh visual landscape and new challenges for the beloved characters.

Following their reunion in France during the dramatic Season 2 finale, the official logline for Season 3 reveals that Daryl and Carol will “continue their journey to somehow return home and to the ones they love.” However, their path back is anything but direct. As they “struggle to find their way back,” their quest leads them “farther astray,” guiding them through “distant lands with ever-changing and unfamiliar conditions” as they witness the diverse impacts of the walker apocalypse across Spain.

The decision to keep the characters on the move and explore new territories is a deliberate creative choice. Showrunner David Zabel previously indicated that the team “loved the reinvigoration” experienced by moving to France and wanted to continue that dynamic. The narrative logic also supports this nomadic lifestyle, as the characters “should not settle down” but rather remain a “road show” constantly moving in their struggle to get home.

Fans got a first taste of the Spanish adventure with a brief teaser trailer that premiered during the recent season finale of The Walking Dead: Dead City.

Alongside the teaser, AMC has also released new promotional photos offering glimpses into the new season. These visuals feature returning stars Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride, but also highlight new series regulars joining the cast: Eduardo Noriega, Óscar Jaenada, and Alexandra Masangkay. Photos also notably show Melissa McBride ready for action, wielding a sword.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is executive produced by showrunner David Zabel, alongside franchise chief Scott M. Gimple, series stars Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride, Greg Nicotero, Brian Bockrath, Angela Kang, Jason Richman, Dan Percival, Steve Squillante, and Silvia Aráez and Jesús de la Vega from Ánima Stillking.

The journey home is far from over for Daryl and Carol, and it’s now taking them on an unexpected detour through the diverse landscapes of post-apocalyptic Spain. Get ready for new challenges and new faces when Season 3 premieres on September 7.
