Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 3 Heads to Spain This September
Fans of the Walking Dead universe finally have a premiere date and confirmation of a major new setting for the third season of the popular spinoff series, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. The new season, which sees franchise favorites Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier journeying through unfamiliar territory, is officially set to premiere on Sunday, September 7, 2025.
The reveal came via a new teaser trailer released during the season two finale of The Walking Dead: Dead City, another series in the expanding universe. This latest look confirms previous speculation, showcasing Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride, reprising their roles as Daryl and Carol, navigating the sun-drenched landscapes of Spain.
What the New Teaser Reveals
The teaser offers a vibrant contrast to the typically grim palette of the apocalypse. It opens with striking visuals of Spain – sandstone buildings, dusty streets, and the sounds of classical, finger-picked Spanish guitars. Early voiceovers from Daryl (“Felt like somethin’ got lost, the chance to really have somethin'”) and Carol (“First you survive what happened to you, then you start living again”) hint at a potential shift in tone, suggesting a search for something beyond mere survival.
However, the optimistic atmosphere quickly gives way to the expected horror. The teaser rapidly transitions to scenes of Daryl and Carol battling hordes of walkers, punctuated by the stark intertitle, “A new fight begins.” The preview closes on a note of resilience, featuring Daryl echoing a familiar sentiment: “A friend of mine used to say, ‘Bet on hope.'”
Intriguingly, an earlier teaser hinted at Daryl and Carol traversing an overgrown London near the Chunnel, with different dialogue (“I was ready to give up,” “You and me both”), suggesting their path home might be far more winding and unpredictable than initially teased. A new character, Paz (played by Alexandra Masangkay), is also glimpsed, adding to the sense of encountering new faces and challenges.
The Long Road Home Leads to Distant Lands
The official logline for Season 3 clarifies the core plot: Daryl (Reedus) and Carol (McBride) “continue their journey to somehow return home and to the ones they love.” This objective, however, remains elusive. Their struggle to find their way back paradoxically takes them “farther astray,” leading them through distant lands with ever-changing and unfamiliar conditions. As they navigate Spain, they will witness the various effects of the Walker apocalypse on this new region.
Showrunner David Zabel explained the creative team’s desire to keep the characters moving and exploring new locations. Following the successful “reinforcement” gained from setting the show in France, they wanted to continue the “road show” format. According to Zabel, the characters “should not settle down,” as their core struggle remains the desire “to get home,” which necessitates constant movement, even if the path isn’t a direct route.
Filming for the season took place across various Spanish locations, including Madrid and the regions of Galicia, Aragón, Catalonia, and Valencia, providing diverse backdrops for this new leg of their journey.
New Faces Join Daryl and Carol in Spain
Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride, two of the only remaining original cast members from the flagship The Walking Dead still deeply involved in the franchise, return to anchor the series. McBride, who was a main cast member in Season 2 (“The Book of Carol”), continues her pivotal role alongside Reedus. Their deep, enduring, and often-tested bond, which they have portrayed for over a decade, remains a central element of the show.
Joining Reedus and McBride for the Spain-set season are new series regulars:
Eduardo Noriega as Antonio
Óscar Jaenada as Fede
Alexandra Masangkay as Paz
Additional cast members for Season 3 include Candela Saitta, Hugo Arbués, Greta Fernández, Gonzalo Bouza, Hada Nieto, Yassmine Othman, Cuco Usín, and the previously teased Stephen Merchant.
As Daryl and Carol push further into the unknown territories of the post-apocalyptic world, their journey through Spain promises new threats, new allies, and a deeper look at how the apocalypse has impacted a different corner of the globe when The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon* season three premieres on AMC and AMC+ on September 7.
