BTS member Suga, also known by his birth name Min Yoongi, has officially completed his mandatory service, marking a significant moment as all seven members of the global phenomenon have now fulfilled their national duties or are nearing completion. Suga concluded his 21-month social work service on Saturday, June 21, 2025.

Choosing a quiet return rather than a public event, Suga penned a heartfelt letter to the devoted BTS ARMY, shared exclusively on the fan platform Weverse shortly after his discharge. This message served as his first direct communication with fans after nearly two years away.

A Grateful Return to ARMY

In his emotional note, the rapper expressed profound gratitude to his fans for their patience and unwavering support during his absence. “Hello, armys, nice to meet you. It’s me, Suga. It’s been like 2 years. How have you all been doing,” he began, acknowledging the long wait. He added, “First of all, before anything, I’d like to say sincerely thank you very much to you all for waiting till now. I really missed you.”

Reflection and Stepping Back

Suga shared insights into how he spent the duration of his service, revealing it was a period dedicated to deep personal introspection. “I’ve spent the past 2 years thinking deeply about myself,” he wrote. He explained that this time away provided a crucial opportunity he hadn’t previously had, emphasizing the “need to take a step back— especially from the work I’d been doing for so long.” Having always focused solely on moving forward, this period allowed him to gain perspective and “look back at myself.” This time away aligns with the group’s temporary hiatus as members fulfilled their service obligations.

Addressing Past Controversy

In a candid moment, Suga also directly addressed a past controversy, referring to the “incident last year” which is understood to be the 2024 scooter DUI. He offered a sincere apology to ARMY for causing disappointment and worry. “More than anything, I was upset by the fact that I hurt you all,” he confessed. He also expressed deep regret towards his fellow BTS members, acknowledging that they had to navigate challenging circumstances because of his actions. Reports indicate the scooter DUI case concluded in September 2024 with a fine.

Completing Mandatory Service

Suga commenced his social service in December 2023. Unlike most members who served in the regular army, he was assigned to social service due to a prior shoulder injury. His completion on June 21, 2025, means all seven members have now either completed or are close to completing their mandatory military duties as required by South Korean law. Fellow members Jin, J-Hope, RM, V, Jimin, and Jung Kook have also recently completed or are finishing their service around this period.

Looking Towards the Future

Concluding his message, Suga reiterated his thanks and expressed his love for the fans. He made a clear commitment to the future, stating, “I’ll work hard even more to repay all the love you’ve given me.” He also promised to keep ARMY updated periodically. With all members finishing their service, anticipation is high for the group’s planned reunion in 2025, promising a new chapter for BTS and their global fanbase.
