Actor Eric Dane, known for his roles in hits like “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Euphoria,” made his first public red carpet appearance since revealing his diagnosis with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). The appearance took place on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at the Los Angeles premiere of his new Amazon Prime series, “Countdown,” held at the Harmony Gold Theater.

Dane had exclusively disclosed his ALS diagnosis to PEOPLE in April 2025, expressing gratitude for his family’s support as he navigated the news and confirming his intention to continue his acting career. His appearance at the “Countdown” premiere marks a significant step following that announcement, demonstrating his resolve.

Facing Challenges While Pushing Forward

Despite the challenges posed by his health, the 52-year-old actor has remained steadfast in his commitment to working. Prior to the premiere, Dane had spoken candidly about his physical state in an interview, revealing the impact of ALS. “I have one functioning arm,” he shared on Good Morning America, noting his left side was still working while his right had “completely stopped.” He added a sobering projection, saying, “I feel like maybe a couple more months and I won’t have my left hand either. It’s sobering.”

However, Dane’s public stance has consistently been one of determination. He told E! News he planned to “ride this ’til the wheels fall off,” emphasizing that work “keeps me sharp. It keeps me moving forward, which is super important right now.” He maintained a positive spirit, adding, “I feel great when I’m at work… My spirit is always pretty buoyant, so at the end of the day, that’s all that matters.” Speaking to Variety at the premiere, he simply stated, “I feel good,” and found it rewarding to see the culmination of the show’s hard work.

ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a rare, progressive neurodegenerative condition that impacts the nerve cells controlling voluntary muscle movement. It leads to increasing muscle weakness, paralysis, and eventually affects a person’s ability to speak, eat, move, and breathe. While there is currently no cure and the prognosis is often measured in a few years, some individuals live for decades.
