Adobe is expanding its generative AI capabilities, making its powerful Firefly tools easily accessible on the go. The company has officially launched dedicated Adobe Firefly AI apps for both iOS and Android mobile platforms, bringing creative AI workflows directly to smartphones.

This move is part of Adobe’s broader strategy to establish Firefly as a central hub for creators’ AI needs, integrating both Adobe’s proprietary models and a growing ecosystem of third-party AI engines within a unified platform.

Firefly Goes Mobile: AI Power in Your Pocket

The new Firefly mobile app, available now on the App Store and Google Play Store, acts as an all-in-one creative assistant. Like the recently redesigned Firefly web app, the mobile version allows users to generate images and videos from simple text prompts.

Beyond basic generation, the app includes popular generative editing features previously found in Adobe desktop applications. Users can:

Generate entirely new images or videos from text descriptions (Text to Image, Text to Video).
Transform existing images into dynamic video clips (Image to Video).
Modify specific areas of an image using generative fill, adding or removing objects seamlessly.
Expand the boundaries of an image with generative expand, letting AI intelligently fill in surrounding details.

This brings powerful AI creation and editing tools to creators wherever inspiration strikes, offering flexibility for professionals and accessibility for newcomers.

A Unified Platform Featuring Top AI Models

A significant enhancement highlighted with the mobile app launch is Adobe’s expanded support for a diverse range of leading third-party AI models. Firefly is evolving into a “one-stop shop” for creative experimentation, allowing users to explore different models, aesthetics, and media types without leaving the Adobe environment.

Alongside Adobe’s own comprehensive suite of Firefly models for images and videos, the mobile app and platform now integrate models from key partners, including:

Image Generation: OpenAI’s image generation model, Google’s Imagen 3 and 4, Black Forest Labs’ Flux 1.1 Pro and Flux.1 Kontext, Ideogram 3.0, and Runway’s Gen-4 Image.
Video Generation: Google’s Veo 2 and 3, Luma AI’s Ray2, and Pika’s text-to-video generator.

This integration provides creators with unprecedented choice and the ability to leverage the unique strengths of various frontier AI technologies directly within their Firefly workflow.

Seamless Integration with Creative Cloud

For Creative Cloud subscribers, the Firefly mobile app offers a smooth workflow experience. Projects initiated on the mobile device can be automatically synced to the user’s Creative Cloud account. This allows for seamless access and continuation of work on the web or within desktop applications like Adobe Photoshop or Premiere Pro.

Access to the Firefly app and its features, including the third-party models, typically requires an Adobe account and a paid plan. Adobe utilizes a system of “generative credits,” allocated monthly to Creative Cloud members and purchasable separately, to manage usage of certain advanced AI tools. Dedicated Firefly Mobile subscription plans ($4.99 monthly or $49.99 yearly) are also available.

Beyond Mobile: Enhanced Firefly Boards

In conjunction with the mobile app release, Adobe has also updated its collaborative whiteboarding tool, Firefly Boards (available in public beta on the web). Firefly Boards now includes enhanced video capabilities within its Canvas workspace.

Creative teams can use Firefly Boards to upload and remix existing video clips or generate new video footage using either Adobe’s Firefly Video Model or select external models like Google’s Veo 3, Luma AI’s Ray2, and Pika 2.2. This transforms Firefly Boards into an AI-first moodboarding tool supporting iterative exploration across multiple media types. The platform also supports iterative image editing using conversational text prompts leveraging models like Black Forest Labs’ Flux.1 Kontext.

Driving Growth and Transparency

Adobe reports significant momentum for Firefly, stating that users globally have created over 24 billion media assets using its models. The company attributes a substantial increase in its subscriber base to its AI features, reporting a 30 percent quarter-over-quarter rise in first-time subscribers.

Committed to AI transparency, Adobe is implementing Content Credentials, automatically attaching “nutrition labels” to AI-generated content within Firefly apps to indicate which models (Adobe’s or partners’) were used in the creation process.

The launch of the Firefly mobile app, coupled with expanded third-party model support and updates to collaborative tools, positions Adobe Firefly as a powerful, versatile, and accessible generative AI platform across devices and workflows.
