White House Grounds See Installation of Two New 100-Foot Flagpoles
Washington D.C. witnessed a significant visual change on June 18, 2025, as two imposing flagpoles, reportedly standing 100 feet tall, were installed on the White House grounds. President Donald Trump oversaw the project, which adds striking new fixtures to both the North and South Lawns of the executive mansion.
President Trump stated that he personally funded the installation of the flagpoles, describing the initiative as a gift to the nation’s capital. The total cost for the project, including the poles and their installation, was estimated at around $100,000, with each flagpole costing approximately $50,000.
A Long-Awaited Addition, Says Trump
According to President Trump, the decision to install the new flagpoles stemmed from a long-held belief that such prominent flag displays were “desperately needed” and represented “something which was always missing from this magnificent place.” He expressed that the White House, which dates back to around 1800, had long been in need of flagpoles rising directly from the lawn. Trump claimed the addition was needed for “200 years.”
The flagpoles themselves are described as being of the highest quality, featuring a tapered design, rust-proof construction, and an internal rope system. They were manufactured by US Flag & Flagpole Supply, a small business based in Plano, Texas, emphasizing their “Made in America” origin and the company’s expertise in large-scale flagpoles.
Installation and Ceremony
The installation process began on the morning of June 18. President Trump, known for his background in real estate development, took a personal interest in the project, observing the work and engaging with the construction crews. He reportedly expressed confidence that the securely anchored poles would stand proudly for decades.
A ceremony was held on the South Lawn later that day, where a U.S. flag was raised on one of the new poles. Members of the Trump family, including his daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner, were present for the event. Following the raising, President Trump reportedly asked reporters, “How do you like it, everybody?” While the flag on the South Lawn was raised, the flag on the North Lawn pole was reportedly delayed due to prevailing thunderstorms.
The addition of ground-based flagpoles is a notable change, as the primary American flag at the White House has traditionally been flown from a pole located on the roof of the residence. The White House also displays the POW/MIA flag.
