Former NFL star wide receiver Antonio Brown is now the subject of an arrest warrant issued in Miami-Dade County, Florida, on a serious charge of attempted murder.
Authorities are actively seeking to apprehend the controversial ex-player in connection with a shooting incident that occurred at an amateur boxing event back in May.
Details Emerge from the Warrant
According to information obtained from the official warrant, the incident unfolded at a Miami venue during the boxing event. An off-duty officer working security reported hearing gunshots and went outside to investigate. Witnesses at the scene told the officer that Antonio Brown was the shooter.
While a search of Brown at the scene did not yield a weapon, officers reportedly discovered two spent shell casings and an empty gun holster nearby.
Further investigation, including a review of surveillance footage from the venue and additional witness statements, helped detectives piece together the sequence of events. The warrant alleges that during a large physical altercation, Brown punched a man. Several other individuals then reportedly joined in attacking the same man before security personnel intervened.
The warrant further claims that Brown was later seen taking a firearm from a security officer. He then allegedly pursued the man he had punched, who had left the immediate area. Cell phone video footage reportedly shows Brown holding the gun as he approached the man, with the sound of two gunshots captured on the recording, according to the warrant details.
Brown’s Public Response
Following initial reports of the warrant, Antonio Brown posted a video on his X account showing himself riding a bicycle. The post included the hashtag “#lovefromthemiddleeast.”
Last month, Brown had also shared on X that he was “jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me.” He stated police released him after hearing his account. Social media videos from the time of the incident appeared to show a chaotic scene with people fleeing after hearing sounds resembling gunshots.
A Career Marked by Turmoil
Antonio Brown was widely considered one of the most talented wide receivers in the NFL for years. He spent the prime of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2010 to 2018, leading the league in receiving yards twice.
However, his career became increasingly tumultuous due to numerous on-field and off-field issues. After being traded to the Oakland Raiders, he was released before even playing a game for the team in 2019. He went on to play brief stints with the New England Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His time with the Buccaneers ended abruptly and bizarrely during a 2021 game when he removed his uniform and walked off the field mid-game. Brown announced his retirement a few months later.
This latest legal development adds another serious chapter to the ongoing controversies surrounding the former NFL star. Police in Miami-Dade County are currently working to locate and apprehend Brown based on the active attempted murder warrant.
