Get ready for a jam-packed weekend of racing as NASCAR brings its top three national series – the Cup, Xfinity, and CRAFTSMAN Truck Series – to the iconic Pocono Raceway, June 20-22, 2025. Known as “The Tricky Triangle,” this 2.5-mile tri-oval in Long Pond, Pennsylvania, presents a unique challenge with its three distinct turns, each inspired by a different legendary racetrack and featuring varying banking (14 degrees in Turn 1, 8 degrees in Turn 2, and 6 degrees in Turn 3).
Here’s your ultimate guide to catching all the action, including practice, qualifying, and the main events, along with insights into the weekend’s storylines.
The Challenge of The Tricky Triangle
Pocono’s layout is unlike any other on the NASCAR circuit. Turn 1 is modeled after the former Trenton Speedway, Turn 2 borrows from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and Turn 3 takes inspiration from the Milwaukee Mile. The dramatic shifts in banking and the long straightaways demand a versatile setup from teams and strategic driving from competitors.
Hendrick Motorsports, in particular, has mastered Pocono, holding the record for the most Cup Series wins by an organization at the track with 19 victories. Recent winners include Chase Elliott (2022) and Alex Bowman (2021).
NASCAR Cup Series: The Great American Getaway 400
The weekend culminates with the NASCAR Cup Series headliner, The Great American Getaway 400 Presented by VISITPA.com, scheduled for Sunday, June 22. This 160-lap, 400-mile battle is a crucial event as the 17th race of the 2025 season and the final seeding opportunity for the upcoming In-Season Challenge bracket.
Competition is fierce, especially near the playoff bubble, with drivers like Chris Buescher holding a slim points advantage over others. At the front of the pack, William Byron currently leads teammate Kyle Larson by 67 points. Byron boasts an impressive average finish of 9.4 at Pocono, the best among active drivers. Larson is also a strong contender, leading the four Hendrick Motorsports drivers with 158 laps led at the track, aiming for his fourth win of the season.
Historically, Denny Hamlin stands out with a remarkable seven Cup Series wins at Pocono – the most of any driver and the only one with multiple wins in the last eight races here. Seven other active drivers have also tasted victory lane at the Tricky Triangle.
Catch the Cup Series race broadcast live on Prime Video, with radio coverage on MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Channel 90) starting at 2:00 p.m. ET. Stage breaks are scheduled for Laps 30, 95, and 160.
NASCAR Xfinity Series: Explore The Pocono Mountains 250
The Xfinity Series takes center stage on Saturday, June 21, with the Explore The Pocono Mountains 250. This 100-lap, 250-mile race is the 10th Xfinity event held at Pocono since 2016. The race broadcast is on The CW, with radio on MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. Stages conclude on Laps 25, 50, and 100.
A major storyline heading into the Xfinity race was Chase Elliott’s return to the Hendrick Motorsports No. 17 Chevrolet for a second start this season. Piloting the car with Dale Earnhardt Jr. serving as his crew chief, Elliott started from the pole position, building on a strong second-place finish in his previous outing in the #17 at Darlington.
In a competitive race marked by cautions, Elliott navigated the early chaos and advanced through the field in the final stage. Despite briefly leading and showing winning speed, contact with Justin Allgaier late in the race after being impacted by a caution during pit stops shuffled him back. Elliott ultimately recovered to secure a solid fourth-place finish.
Other notable Xfinity competitors included Austin Hill, the only past Xfinity winner at Pocono in the field, and Justin Allgaier, nearing a record-breaking 300th career top-10 finish.
NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series: MillerTech Battery 200
Kicking off the tripleheader weekend on Friday, June 20, is the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series MillerTech Battery 200. This 80-lap, 200-mile event marks the 16th time the Trucks have competed at Pocono. The race will be broadcast on FS1, with radio coverage on MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. Stages are set to end on Laps 20, 40, and 80.
Past Truck Series winners competing this weekend include Corey Heim, Chandler Smith, and Brandon Jones. The race will also feature several drivers making their debut at the challenging track.
