Samsung fans planning for the future might need to adjust their expectations for the Galaxy S27 Ultra. A new leak circulating online suggests the highly anticipated flagship phone could potentially arrive without a built-in S Pen slot.
This potential change could echo a move Samsung made years ago, one that required stylus enthusiasts to purchase and carry the S Pen separately.
The rumor originated from a trusted leaker in China and was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by tipster @Jukanlosreve. According to this source, Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S27 Ultra flagship might abandon the integrated S Pen storage solution.
Will the S27 Ultra Mirror the S21 Ultra Experience?
If the leak proves accurate, the Galaxy S27 Ultra could follow a similar path to the Galaxy S21 Ultra from 2021. That model did not have a dedicated space within the phone for the S Pen, requiring users to buy it as an extra accessory and store it externally (often via specific cases).
The leaker’s information implies that the S27 Ultra, expected in 2027, might revert to this model, making the S Pen an optional add-on rather than an included and integrated feature.
Is Samsung Phasing Out the Integrated S Pen?
This isn’t the first hint of Samsung potentially shifting its strategy regarding the iconic S Pen in the Galaxy S series. The recent Galaxy S25 Ultra, released earlier this year, notably scaled back the S Pen by removing its Bluetooth features. Many interpreted this as an official signal that the deeply integrated stylus might not remain a permanent fixture in all future models.
Given the S25 Ultra’s changes and this new rumor about the S27 Ultra lacking a built-in slot, speculation is growing that the Galaxy S26 Ultra might be the final flagship phone in the traditional S line to offer the “complete,” fully integrated S Pen experience.
Samsung could be considering moving away from seamlessly integrating the stylus, perhaps to allocate more internal space for components like enhanced cameras or larger batteries. Another possibility is that Samsung might choose to reserve the integrated S Pen experience primarily for its foldable devices, like certain Galaxy Z Fold models, or position the S Pen purely as a premium, separate accessory across its lineup.
While this remains a rumor, it suggests Samsung could be contemplating a significant design and feature shift for the Galaxy S27 Ultra, impacting how users interact with the beloved S Pen.
