Suspect Arrested in Tragic Hit-and-Run Killing Netflix Star Sara Burack in the Hamptons
A fatal hit-and-run accident in the Hamptons has led to the arrest of a Virginia woman in connection with the death of luxury real estate agent and former Netflix reality TV star, Sara Burack.
Southampton Town police confirmed the arrest of Amanda Kempton, 32, of Virginia, on Friday, June 20, 2025. She faces a charge of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in a fatality, a Class D felony under New York law.
The victim, 40-year-old Sara Burack, was tragically killed in the apparent hit-and-run incident on Thursday, June 19, 2025. Authorities responded to a 911 call shortly after 2:45 a.m. reporting a woman lying unconscious on Montauk Highway West in Hampton Bays. Responding officers found Burack on the busy roadway, near the Villa Paul Restaurant, suffering from serious injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.
Burack was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital. A close family friend and former colleague shared that Burack had gone into cardiac arrest at the scene but was revived and placed on life support, having sustained extensive injuries including significant brain injuries, a fractured skull, and brain bleeds. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Authorities have stated that alcohol is not considered a factor in the incident.
Suspect Appears in Court, Pleads Not Guilty
Amanda Kempton was arraigned in court on Saturday, June 21, 2025. During the arraignment, she entered a plea of not guilty to the charge. She was subsequently released on bail, putting up $100,000 collateral.
According to Kempton’s legal representative, she initially believed she had struck a traffic cone at the time of the collision. Her attorney stated that she left the scene and drove to a friend’s home, where she reportedly discovered a large, pink suitcase belonging to the victim lodged underneath her vehicle.
Remembering Sara Burack
Sara Burack was a prominent figure in both the real estate world and reality television. A graduate of Franklin and Marshall College, her LinkedIn profile indicates she began her real estate career years later, joining the luxury residential and commercial brokerage firm Nest Seekers International in 2012. She worked with Nest Seekers for over a decade, specializing in properties across New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, and was deeply focused on her career.
Burack gained wider public recognition in 2020 for her appearance on the first season of the Netflix reality series “Million Dollar Beach House.” The show followed a group of real estate agents competing for listings of opulent homes in the Hamptons, the same region where her life was tragically cut short. She also appeared on HBO Max’s “Selling the Hamptons.”
Beyond her professional life, Burack was known for her philanthropy and charity work, frequently co-chairing galas and black-tie events in New York City. A friend described her as “a great person” and “a hard worker,” adding, “A lot of people loved her and knew her. She’s such a good person and would help anyone.”
At the time of reports, neither Nest Seekers International nor Netflix had responded to requests for comment regarding Burack’s death. The investigation into the fatal hit-and-run remains ongoing.
