Son of Norway’s Crown Princess Faces Formal Charges Including Rape and Assault
Marius Borg Høiby, the 28-year-old son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit and stepson of the future King Crown Prince Haakon, has been formally charged by Norwegian police following a comprehensive investigation into various offenses. The charges include multiple counts of rape, sexual assault, and bodily harm.
This development comes after a 10-month investigation led by the Oslo Police District, which is now complete.
Specific Charges Filed
According to statements from police attorneys, the formal charges filed against Borg Høiby include:
One case of rape involving intercourse
Two cases of rape without intercourse
Four cases of sexual assault
Two cases of bodily harm
These specific counts bring the total of formal charges to nine, stemming from incidents involving a “double-digit number” of alleged victims. While police have confirmed the number of victims is at least ten, further specifics have not been publicly detailed.
Investigation Timeline and Process
The extensive police investigation commenced after Borg Høiby’s arrest on August 4, 2024, initially on suspicion of assault. He was subsequently arrested on two other occasions later that year, in September and November 2024.
Oslo police described their probe as “thorough,” involving a wide array of investigative steps. These included a large number of witness interviews, several physical searches, and a detailed review of extensive digital material. Borg Høiby was questioned multiple times between autumn 2024 and spring 2025 and reportedly cooperated with the police throughout the process.
Police also noted that some cases initially under investigation, particularly those related to sexual offenses, were dismissed due to factors such as the statute of limitations and evidentiary reasons.
Defense Response and Legal Status
Petar Sekulic, Borg Høiby’s lawyer, stated that his client is “taking the accusations very seriously.” However, Sekulic maintains that Borg Høiby “doesn’t acknowledge any wrongdoing in most of the cases – especially the cases regarding sexual abuse and violence.”
Marius Borg Høiby does not hold a royal title nor does he perform official duties for the Royal House of Norway. While he previously resided with the Crown Prince and Crown Princess and their younger children, his lawyer has indicated he now lives in a separate house nearby.
He remains free at this time, pending any potential trial. Under the legal system, he is entitled to the presumption of innocence until a court delivers a ruling.
Royal House Position
The Royal House of Norway has issued a brief statement regarding the matter, acknowledging that the case is proceeding through the legal system. They have stated they have nothing further to add at this time, referring to the ongoing “normal procedures.”
